Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 30, 2025
Introduction
The Yorkshire Chat Discord server is a community space for people across Yorkshire to share, connect, and engage in conversation. This Privacy Policy explains what information (if any) is collected, how it is used, and your rights as a member.
Yorkshire Chat values your privacy and transparency. The server collects minimal information and does not store personal data beyond what Discord itself provides.
Data Collection
Yorkshire Chat does not collect personal information directly from members. The only data available to server administrators is what Discord provides, such as usernames, message content, and basic analytics (for example, member count and server activity levels).
Outside of Discord, basic website analytics are recorded through Matomo, a privacy-focused analytics platform hosted on our own servers. This data helps us understand site usage but does not include personal identifiers or tracking across other websites.
Analytics
Discord provides limited analytics, such as the number of members and general engagement statistics. These analytics help administrators understand how the server is used and improve community management.
For the Yorkshire Chat website, visit data is tracked through Matomo, hosted entirely on our own servers. Information is anonymised and used solely to monitor website performance and visitor trends. No data is shared with any third parties.
Third-Party Services
All data handling is managed within Discord’s platform and our self-hosted analytics system. Yorkshire Chat does not use external applications, bots, or integrations that collect personal data.
For details about Discord’s own data handling, please refer to the Discord Privacy Policy .
Data Storage and Security
Yorkshire Chat does not store or export user data outside of Discord, except for anonymised Matomo analytics stored securely on our own infrastructure. All communications and stored data within Discord remain on Discord’s servers, protected by their internal security measures.
Administrators take reasonable steps to ensure that community tools and moderation actions do not compromise member privacy.
Cookies and Tracking
The Yorkshire Chat website uses a small number of functional cookies via Matomo to measure anonymous traffic patterns. No third-party tracking cookies are used. Any cookies used while accessing Discord’s web client are managed by Discord, not by Yorkshire Chat.
User Rights
Members maintain full control over their messages, media, and participation on the server. You may delete your messages, leave the server, or request data deletion directly through Discord’s platform at any time.
Website analytics data is anonymised and cannot be linked to individuals.
Data for All Ages
The Yorkshire Chat Discord server is open to general audiences. However, parents or guardians should supervise younger users, as interactions take place in a live chat environment. No data is collected from minors beyond Discord’s own system data.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically to reflect new server features, Discord policy changes, or legal requirements. The effective date at the top of this page indicates the latest version.
